Masters In Psychology (M.Sc. PSY)
The Masters programme in Psychology is a two-year programme spread over four semesters. It aims at preparing individuals to work in clinical, child-guidance, and industrial settings, functioning as psychologists, providing psychological assessments and therapies suited to the needs of the clients they work with. Emphasis is placed on developing competencies in research and assessments through project work and internships. The programme equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue careers in research as well. Students are provided with opportunities for self-exploration and personal growth as well as skills training and integration. Students joining this course are exposed to various settings in which mental-health care is provided through field-visits and internships. In addition, they are provided with opportunities to improve their personal awareness through workshops, mentoring programmes and personal counselling services.
Choice Based credit system
The syllabus for MSc Psychology follows the regulations governing the choice-based credit system for the two years (four semesters) Master’s degree programmes in the faculties of arts, science and commerce as directed by Bengaluru North University.
General guidelines
The duration of the MSc Program shall extend over 4 semesters (2 academic years) of 16 weeks or more with a minimum of 90 actual working days of instruction in each week, 3 weeks of examination. The syllabus will be taught in English Medium. Students will be treated as adult learners taking the onus for their own learning. 30% of the evaluation of each course will be through Continuous Internal Assessments as guided by Bengaluru North University while 70% of the evaluation will be through the end-semester examinations conducted by the affiliating university. Semester end results and marks cards are published by the affiliating university. Successful completion of all the requirements of the post graduate program will lead to Master’s Degree in Psychology.
Eligibility
BA/ B.Sc. with Psychology as one of the subjects with 40% aggregate of all optional subjects and 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) in the cognate subject.
Course Outline
The course work follows a CBCS scheme with core theory and practicals as well as soft-core papers. The coursework gives students a strong grounding in theoretical as well as the application of the theory in various settings in the field of Psychology.
Scope:
Students who successfully complete the requirements for Master of Science Degree in Psychology programme are eligible to pursue M.Phil , Ph.D or any other equivalent programme in any university or academic institution around the world. They are also eligible to assume the role of a psychologist in any applied field in any organization. Further, they could pursue a teaching career in Schools / Colleges / Universities. The program’s diverse coursework helps aspiring psychologists, practitioners, academicians and researchers to develop effective, integrative and holistic skills and methods to contribute at large to the society by supporting healthy living.
