Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan: 1982-1972
Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan was born 12 August 1892 was a mathematician and librarian from India. His most notable contributions to the field were his five laws of library science and the development of the first major faceted classification system, the colon classification. He is considered to be the father of library science, documentation, and information science in India and is widely known throughout the rest of the world for his fundamental thinking in the field. His birthday is observed every year as the National Library Day in India.

 

The Library is an integral component of the institution ever since its inception in 1995. The Library offers vital support for teaching, learning, research activities of the College by disseminating knowledge and offering modern services to the academic fraternity. It is partially automated using BOOK WORM’S software formerly known as NIRMAL software for its housekeeping operations.

Our library is equipped with academically superior e-resources ensuring that our students are exposed to the best journals and resources of their field of interest. We subscribe to e-resources such as National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content [N-LIST], Journal Gateway [J-Gate] and Developing Library Network [DELNET].

GENERAL RULES

WE REQUEST YOU TO

  • Bring your ID card when you visit Library and Scan your ID cards while coming into and going out of the library
  • The use of another’s Identity card is prohibited/ ID cards are non-transferable.
  • Personal belongings must be left on the property counter. The Library is not responsible for any item left at the Library.
  • Respect and follow Library Rules and Policies
  • Maintain silence in the Library Premises
  • Help keep the Library neat and clean
  • Take care of Library materials

SOME DON’TS

  • Do not take out library materials without getting issued
  • Do not use mobiles on Library premises OR Cell phones are to be set in the “OFF” or “VIBRATOR” or “SILENT” mode prior to entering the Library.
  • Do not bring Music & other gadgets
  • Do not bring any eatables & drinks
  • Do not use Library computers/ Network for non-academic purposes
  • Do not mark, write, scribble, underline in Library reading materials
  • Avoid doing anything that disturbs other users
  • Refreshment of any kind shall not be taken anywhere on the library premises.

CIRCULATION RULES

BORROWING PRIVILEGES

  • Students
  • Post Graduate – 3 Books/14 Days
  • Under Graduate -2 books/14 Days
  • Diploma – 3 Books/14 Days
  • Faculties – 5 Books/14 Days
  • Part time faculties – 3 books/ 14 days

 

RULES

  • Borrow/ Return books every day
  • ID card is mandatory for all library transactions
  • All items must be checked out and returned to the circulation desk.
  • While leaving the library user should ensure that they carry only those books that are duly issued on their names

RENEWALS

  • Renewals are allowed 2 times on the exact due date & when there are no claims or demands by others.

OVERDUE CHARGES

  • Borrowed books should return on or before due date, otherwise, two rupees (Rs.2/-) per day per book will be collected from the user as an overdue charge.
  • Please login to OPAC for your due date of returning the book and fine details.

LOST / DAMAGED BOOK(S) POLICY

  • In case any book is lost or damaged by the member, the member shall replace the book or shall pay the cost of replacement.
  • If a lost/ damaged book has overdue fines on the date of reporting to the librarian, the member has to pay the overdue charges.

An e-Library or Digital Library (both terms often used interchangeably) is a collection of digital objects. These Digital Objects could be classified as text, visuals, video, audio, etc.

E-library/ digital library feature is an integral part of the software. This feature is used to build the digital/e-library. The e-library collection consist of a compilation of copies of faculty and institution  publications,  open access full text journals, open access e-books, photos, educational videos, previous question papers and dissertations etc., and  users can also download,  for the same. To access this information, they must enter their Library ID Number in the ‘Your Library ID ‘ field.

Library is providing Web OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) Service to library user to get information about library collection which they require.

Library user can search books, thesis and periodicals by searching keyword of title, author, publisher, ISBN/ISSN No., subject and accession number etc. at anywhere of world through internet connection and get information about searched collection like status of books(available or issued) no. of copies and location and other bibliographical details.

By using Web OPAC Patrons (Member Status) tab, users can see what books they have borrowed and their due dates, etc. In order to access this information, they should enter their Library ID Number in the ‘Enter Member ID ‘ field. Users can also reserve books through Web OPAC.
